About Us

Creative Child is an initiative by Makerere Innovation Society to empower young children ages 6 and above with creativity, leadership, entrepreneurship & STEM skills required to succeed in this 21st century. We believe that empowering the young generation is building a sustainable future and we focus on the UN Sustainable Development Goal 4 by ensuring inclusive and equitable quality education and promoting lifelong learning opportunities for all. To ensure that we leave no child behind, we are partnering with governments, NGOs, CBOs, Refugee organisations, primary schools, secondary schools and tertiary institutions to ensure we reach the last child at the last mile of East Africa.

We need to instill among children at an early age the culture of being creative, having an entrepreneurial mindset, the habit of being ethical leaders and developing love for Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics.

Our Achievements

2021

Launched an online creation workplace for children to explore, adventure and share creative ideas as they build their innovation, leadership, entrepreneurship & STEM skills. We also launched new & better innovation, leadership, and entrepreneurship curricula for children aged between 6 and 18 years. By April 2021, we had empowered more 558 children & 37 teachers through our online & physical training workshops.

2020

Empowered 4234 children and 77 teachers in East Africa with ICT innovation skills which included Scratch coding, presentation, website development, mobile application development, games & animation development, machine learning & Artificial Intelligence, robotics among others. This was achieved through our online & onsite training workshops coupled with the Creative child magazines which were widely distributed across all parts of Uganda. We partnered with Guardian Angel Foundation, Iparhona, Bamboo concept centre, ICT Teachers Association of Uganda(ITAU), Edify to ensure we leave no child behind!

2019

We started 2019 strong with an amazing innovation camp for children which began on 7th January 2019 & ended on 25th January 2019 held at Makerere University school of engineering. We later had collaborations with more public universities, NGOs, schools & colleges which enabled us reach & empower 10,421 children, and 643 teachers. That was our year, we had our own challenges which later become success stories of the year. However, key to that success was an emphasis on teamwork & collaboration birthed from our core values, not only across our staff but also with our members both in higher & lower institutions of learning and with other partner organizations!

2018

Makerere Innovation Society is rooted in an ideal: to create the future of students in East Africa. When we officially started in December 2018, our aim was to promote innovation & entrepreneurship among students in primary schools, secondary schools, and tertiary institutions while creating a network of innovators in these institutions across East Africa. 2018 was our first & trial year & we carried out a few workshops in schools before launching on 15th December 2018 with an innovation camp for children held at Makerere University school of engineering. We were happy to empower 226 children & 21 teachers in primary & secondary schools in Uganda
